Interests:

Flexible generation of ammonia from intermittent power - Efficient conversion of ammonia back to electricity in fuel cells and gas turbines.

Biography:

BEng in Mechanical Engineering at Bath with final year project on low NOx combustion from gas turbines. PhD at Cambridge focusing on nanoparticle formation and emissions from combustion engines. Four years as a Senior development engineer for BOC Edwards, 15 years as a Mechanical Engineer at STFC including 18 months as a visiting researcher in energy storage at Nottingham University. Now technical lead for the green ammonia demonstrator situated at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Wide interest in technologies for net zero including longer term chemical energy storage in the form of renewable fuels, and mid-term thermo-mechanical energy storage.
