Prof. Seamus Garvey

Professor of Dynamics

University of Nottingham

Interests:

Seamus Garvey is a broad-spectrum mechanical engineer with extensive experience and interest in gas turbine engines and in the transport/energy-system nexus.

Biography:

Seamus is full Professor of Dynamics at University of Nottingham in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering. He has worked with the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre on Gas Turbine Transmission Systems at Nottingham since 2000 and has been its Director since 2008. Garvey is on the core executive group running the University’s “Future Propulsion” beacon of excellence and also has extensive interests in energy storage to serve future zero-carbon energy systems. In the latter context, his focus is on “medium-duration energy storage” solutions (4hrs – 200hrs discharge time) and understanding how these complement both short-term (battery) solutions and long-term (fuel) solutions for storage
