Dr. Ian Wilkinson

Programme Manager

Siemens Energy

Practical energy systems that deploy hydrogen, and ammonia as a practical / scalable hydrogen vector. Commercial applications for these that makes sense in the near-term.

Ian is part of Siemens Energy’s UK “Energy Transition” team working on demonstration and near-term commercial projects in hydrogen energy systems.  He led the consortium that designed, built and (in 2018) launched the green ammonia energy storage system demonstrator at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.  He is currently working to scale a commercial venture called GeoPura based on providing off-grid, temporary and back-up power from green hydrogen (link).  Ian has a further 13 years’ experience in industrial research and development, gained working on the development of superconducting magnets for MRI scanners at Siemens Magnet Technology.  He holds an MSci and PhD in Physics from the University of Bristol, and an MBA from Oxford Brookes University.
